Registered Large Black Pigs
Large Blacks also known as Lop Eared Blacks, Devons and Cornwall Blacks are from Cornwall, Devon, and Somerset, England. This heritage breed is known for its gigantic size, large litter sizes, and its exceptional foraging ability and of course – its incredible succulent taste.
The breed was popular during the 1800s into the early 1900s. When commercial farms moved toward confinement operations it led to a decline in Large Blacks’ popularity. In the early 1970s the breed was identified on the critically endangered livestock list. Today, with the movement towards farm fresh, pasture raised, humanly treated meat… the number of breeders of Large Blacks is growing and the breed is making a resurgence.
